A Glenaire Tradition That Gives Back

Published: September 25, 2026

Twice a year, the rotunda at Glenaire’s 4000 Building transforms into a treasure hunter’s dream as residents welcome shoppers from across the Cary community for a beloved Glenaire tradition – the resident-run yard sale.

Held each spring and fall, the sale features items donated by Glenaire residents. While anyone from the surrounding community is invited to come shop, the treasures filling the tables come from within Glenaire, giving residents a meaningful way to pass along belongings they no longer need.

The yard sale is organized entirely by residents through a dedicated committee. Residents collect and price donated items, set up the sale and manage the event with support from Glenaire team members. Best of all, every purchase gives back to the people who call Glenaire home.

Proceeds are managed by the Resident Association, which determines how the funds are distributed to support activities and events for residents throughout the community. It is a unique way for residents to raise money for the experiences they enjoy together while taking an active role in making those opportunities possible.

The tradition also makes donating especially convenient. Whether someone is downsizing before moving to Glenaire or transitioning through the community’s continuum of care, residents can donate unwanted household items right within the community.

Once each yard sale concludes, remaining items continue to do good through donations to a local nonprofit.

More than a place to find a bargain, Glenaire’s yard sale is a tradition built around residents helping residents. It turns belongings ready for a new home into opportunities for connection, activities and fun – all while bringing the greater Cary community through Glenaire’s doors twice a year.
