Disc Golf League Builds Friendships One Throw at a Time

Published: July 10, 2026

The only Kintura community with its own 18-hole disc golf course, Scotia Village offers residents a unique way to stay active while building meaningful relationships with neighbors and team members. The course has become home to a popular disc golf league that pairs residents with team members, creating opportunities to connect beyond everyday interactions.

Each spring and fall, teams of two play rounds on their own schedule, record their scores and ultimately compete for a friendly prize.

"Having this disc golf league is a great way to build those resident and team member relationships," says Sarah Laviner, Wellness Director. "It helps the team members get to know the people we serve on a daily basis a little bit better. It inspires us to provide better service when you have a stake in their wellness."

The course itself features nine baskets played twice to create a full 18-hole round. Just as with traditional golf clubs, players use different discs depending on the distance and type of shot. Along with being fun, disc golf provides nearly 45 minutes of walking while improving balance, hand-to-eye coordination and critical thinking as players judge distances and plan each throw.

"There are a few residents who've never played disc golf before they lived at Scotia Village, and now they play all the time," Sarah says. "It's a great opportunity for them to try something new and make friends while being active."

The league also reflects Scotia Village's community spirit. Executive Director Allen Johnson is an active participant, joining residents on the course and demonstrating that building relationships is a priority at every level of the organization.

For future residents, the message is simple: Whether you're an experienced player or trying disc golf for the first time, there's always room to join the fun, make new friends and discover another way to enjoy an active, vibrant lifestyle at Scotia Village.
