Creativity, teamwork and plenty of laughs are set to take center stage at Scotia Village during this year’s highly anticipated Egg Drop Competition. The lighthearted event invites residents to put their engineering skills to the test by designing containers that can protect an egg from multiple drops reaching up to 15 feet in the air.
Using only everyday household materials like straws, cardboard, rubber bands, tape and cotton balls, participants will carefully craft one-of-a-kind contraptions in hopes of keeping their eggs intact through three increasingly difficult rounds. While some designs are expected to be surprisingly sophisticated, others may earn recognition for “Most Devastating Crash” – one of the competition’s most entertaining awards.
Residents will also compete for honors including “Most Creative” and the overall Grand Prize, awarded to the egg that survives all three drops with the least amount of damage.
“Whether they are participating in the competition or simply coming to support and spectate, I hope they experience an atmosphere of joy and excitement,” says Sarah Laviner, Wellness Director. “I love hearing people say, ‘The residents couldn’t stop talking about this at dinner,’ or ‘They had so much fun at that event.’ I truly love getting to do what I do.”
Beyond the friendly competition, events like the Egg Drop Challenge reflect the vibrant lifestyle residents enjoy every day at Scotia Village. From wellness programs and lifelong learning opportunities to social gatherings that bring neighbors together, the community is designed to encourage connection, creativity and fun at every stage of retirement.
The event also highlights an important part of the Scotia Village experience – residents are encouraged to stay curious, try new things and continue exploring their passions in an engaging and supportive environment. Whether carefully engineering the perfect egg container or simply cheering on friends during the big drops, participants can expect an afternoon filled with excitement and memorable moments.
At Scotia Village, retirement living is anything but ordinary – and the Egg Drop Competition is just one more example of the fun residents have to look forward to.
