The Village at Brookwood Hosts ‘Wellness Center Open House’

Published: October 01, 2025

The Village at Brookwood recently hosted a long overdue Wellness Center Open House, and it was nothing short of a success. Current residents and future residents gathered to explore the many ways wellness is celebrated in the community. From the moment the doors opened, there was excitement in the air as people discovered just how much is available to them right at their fingertips.

Wellness instructors gave 15–minute demonstrations, while residents gathered around to watch, learn and ask questions. It was a chance to see the variety of classes offered in the Wellness Center, including Pilates, water aerobics, Strength and Aerobics, Better Balance and more. All instructors are certified and experienced in working with older adults, making every class safe, inclusive and effective for participants at any level. The event also highlighted the community’s strength training area with weight machines, as well as the on–site physical therapy services and licensed massage therapist.

The event brought in more than 60 residents along with several Oak Circle members, future residents who had the chance to see what life at The Village at Brookwood could be like. For many, it was inspiring to see that retirement does not mean slowing down; instead, it can be active, fulfilling and full of opportunities to connect. Oak Circle members were especially excited to learn about a new program that allows them to use the Wellness Center before moving in, helping them make friends and feel part of the community right away.

The Resident Health and Wellness Committee planned and organized with the help of TVAB Wellness Center coordinator and other departments. The committee is deeply passionate about helping others remain healthy and become more connected in their community. “The benefits of just moving are so important,” says Doris Brooks, committee chairperson. “Our goal is to inspire people, build community through exercise, and help all residents stay as independent as possible for as long as possible.”

The impact of the event was clear. Numerous residents left feeling motivated to return and get involved. Some classes increased participation by as much as 38 percent since the event, confirming the open house succeeded in reigniting interest in wellness. Just as importantly, it reminded everyone that wellness is not only about physical health – it is about making friends, being social and finding a sense of purpose.

“Wellness can be for everyone, and all classes can be modified to your fitness level and ability,” Doris says. “The Wellness Open House was a truly great experience, and it was wonderful to see everyone so engaged. We are looking forward to doing it again next year.

The Village at Brookwood’s Wellness Center is more than a gym. It is a place where neighbors come together, friendships are formed and residents are empowered to live life to the fullest. The open house was a beautiful reminder that wellness can bring us together and that there is always something to be inspired by in this vibrant community.
