Scotia Village Hosts First-Ever Tie Dye Day

Published: October 01, 2025

What’s a simple way to spark creativity and brighten spirits? Tie dye, of course!

Scotia Village recently held its very first Tie Dye Day, a colorful celebration that brought residents from Healthcare, Assisted Living and Independent Living together for a one-of-a-kind experience.

The idea came from Wellness Coordinator Sarah Laviner and Activities Coordinator Jake Dial. Sarah was inspired after seeing creative tie dye videos on TikTok and thought residents would enjoy putting their own spin on the trend. Residents supplied their own garments – shirts, socks, hats, even scarves – while the Scotia team provided the dye, rubber bands and all other materials to make the day a success.

“Wellness is more than just physical. It’s mental and social too, and that’s what this activity represents,” Sarah said. “The fun thing about tie dye is that every design is unique. Residents can make their creations as intricate or as free-spirited as they like.”

For some, the event was a nostalgic throwback. For others, it was their very first time trying the technique. Either way, the joy was the same – colorful hands, big smiles and new friendships formed.

Both Sarah and Jake hope Tie Dye Day becomes a yearly tradition, with the possibility of custom Scotia Village T-shirts in the future. “It would be fun to see residents showing off their creativity while representing their community,” Sarah shared.

This event is just another example of how retirement doesn’t slow down at Scotia Village. From unique programs to engaging activities, residents here are living vibrantly, staying connected and proving that life at Scotia is as colorful as you make it.
