A Night to Remember: Glenaire’s Third Annual Healthcare Senior Prom

The auditorium at Glenaire – the continuing care retirement, or “life plan” community in Cary – was filled with sparkle, music and joy as healthcare residents gathered for the community’s third annual Senior Prom. Dressed in beautiful gowns and sharp suits, more than 80 residents and family members enjoyed an evening that was nothing short of magical.

The night began with guests strolling down the red carpet, greeted by team members who worked to make sure every detail was perfect. The Events and Catering team, along with colleagues from Life Enrichment, spent months planning the celebration – and it showed. This year’s theme, Black Ice Affair, set the tone for an elegant evening. Past themes have included A Night Under the Stars and A Lifetime Eclipse, but this year’s event took glamour to new heights.

The prom itself was originally the idea of Life Enrichment Coordinator, Ursula Deloatch. Since its start, the event has grown into a beloved tradition that residents eagerly anticipate each year. “It gives our residents something special to look forward to, and they absolutely loved the music, the dancing and the food,” Ursula says.

Residents and their loved ones enjoyed a formal sit-down dinner complete with she-crab soup, a carving station with roast beef tenderloin and pineapple-glazed ham, a baked potato bar, bacon-wrapped asparagus, sautéed green beans and a dessert table featuring macaroons and banana pudding.

For many, the evening became a long-awaited date night.

Several couples made up of one spouse in healthcare and the other in independent living were able to share a night out together, surrounded by friends and family. The CNA and nursing teams went above and beyond to ensure every resident could participate, helping them arrive safely, assisting throughout the evening and even dressing up themselves to join in the celebration. Their dedication made it possible for residents to focus solely on enjoying the night.

“It was truly a heartwarming experience to see all the residents enjoying themselves and being treated to a special night out,” says Hannah Thomas, Events and Catering Coordinator.

And what’s a prom without a king and queen? This year the honors went to Mr. and Mrs. Lieth, a couple who recently will soon celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. The crowd cheered as they were crowned, their beautiful love story adding even more meaning to the evening.

Glenaire’s Senior Prom is more than just an event; it reflects the community’s commitment to enriching the lives of residents in every way possible. And also by creating opportunities for joy and connection and celebrating the people who call Glenaire home.
