Making Waves! Water Volleyball Brings Fun and Wellness to Life at The Village at Brookwood

Published: June 27, 2025

At The Village at Brookwood (TVAB), staying active is all about joy, connection and movement that feels good. One resident favorite? Weekly water volleyball – a fun, low-impact activity that’s easy on the joints and full of laughter.

Each week, residents gather in the warm, saltwater pool at the wellness center – not to compete, but to play together. The goal is simple: keep the beach volleyball in the air, stay moving and have a great time.

“One day they had 216 passes without the ball touching the water,” says Wellness Coordinator Kristy Pardue. “Everyone was working together and having fun. That’s what it’s all about.”

Kristy has been part of TVAB family for over 16 years, leading a wide variety of wellness programs, from water aerobics to aqua bikes. Her passion? Helping residents feel their best while having fun. “I get to play with residents all day,” she says with a smile. “It’s about helping them live their best lives.”

Water-based activities are ideal for older adults, offering gentle support for those with joint or balance challenges. The shallow saltwater pool adds buoyancy, and the lightweight beach ball promotes safety while improving hand-eye coordination and mobility.

Residents such as Ruby Enouch, who’s played for over eight years, say it’s more than just exercise — it’s a highlight of their week. “Even my daughter and grandsons join in when they visit,” she says.

Paul Cleveland agrees: “It’s not about winning. It’s about feeling good, staying active, making friends and building community.”

Thanks to the creativity and care of our Life Enrichment Team, every activity, such as water volleyball, is designed to help residents stay engaged, connected and thriving. It’s all part of a lifestyle that nurtures the mind, body and spirit.

At TVAB, days are filled with movement, laughter and meaningful connection – a true reflection of what it means to live well at every stage of life.
