Exploring Passions and Building Community: Glenaire’s Summer School Series Brings Learning to Life

Published: June 27, 2025

This summer, Glenaire is buzzing with curiosity and creativity thanks to the Summer School Series, a resident-led program that turns personal passions into opportunities for learning, connection and joy.

The Summer School Series is designed to enrich residents' lives through one-time classes taught by fellow residents. Whether it’s a skill learned over a lifetime or a hobby picked up just recently, these classes invite participants to either share their expertise or try something new. From watercolor painting and introductory journalism to the science of sound and managing your digital identity, the variety of topics ensures there’s something for everyone. Some sessions draw large groups, while others, like hands-onp demonstrations, keep things small to offer a more intimate experience.

For resident Lynn Maher, this summer’s series offered the perfect opportunity to share her creativity through cookie decorating – a hobby she discovered about 10 years ago after watching YouTube tutorials. A former paralegal and always interested in cooking and baking, Lynn now delights in creating beautifully customized treats for neighbors, friends and even local organizations.

“It’s my creative outlet, and I find it very relaxing,” she says.

Her signature cookies have become a sweet staple at Glenaire, featured on the community’s website and social media. She’s even crafted personalized batches for team members and fellow residents – thoughtful, edible surprises that reflect both her skill and heart.

Lynn’s demonstration class, limited to eight participants, offers a close-up look at her process. It’s not just about sugar and frosting; it’s about sparking creativity and connection.

“The best part is that everyone gets to contribute their talents,” she shares. “This is a way to explore new things, learn from each other and build relationships.”

Activities Coordinator Christine Evans, who oversees the series, says it’s the perfect chance for residents to dip their toes into something new without a major time commitment. “Each class is just one session, so it’s low-pressure and easy to try. It’s all about continuous learning and building community in a fun, approachable way.”

Programs like the Summer School Series reflect Glenaire’s commitment to purposeful living and lifelong enrichment. With residents leading the way and team members supporting their passions, Glenaire continues to be a place where talents are celebrated, learning never stops and community thrives.
